Historic Filipino Epic '1521' Makes Waves Internationally with Showing Schedules in Cebu

CEBU CITY, Philippines - The Battle of Mactan, a pivotal event in Filipino history, has long been celebrated locally at the Liberty Shrine through annual reenactments. This year, the historical battle leaps onto the international stage with the release of the blockbuster film '1521', which premiered in America last October and is now set to captivate audiences in Cebu.

The film, which explores the heroic defense led by the national hero Lapu-Lapu against Spanish invaders, also delves into a poignant subplot involving a love story between a follower of Lapu-Lapu, portrayed by acclaimed actress Bea Alonzo, and a Spanish soldier played by Hector David, Jr. with Hollywood veteran Danny Trejo as Magellan. This narrative blend of fierce patriotism and cross-cultural romance has garnered the film applause from both Filipino and international audiences.

Following its successful debut in 650 theaters across America, where it was warmly received by a diverse audience including local and foreign dignitaries, '1521' is now heading to Cebu scheduled for June 5. The film's producer, Francis Lara Ho, made a personal visit to Cebu to collaborate with local officials in promoting this significant cinematic event.
